3 Keweenaw waterfalls to visit in the Winter
These waterfalls can be enjoyed all year-round.
There are many waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula, I’ve been to over 750 and counting and always finding more. I hope that you will find some new waterfalls and other places to enjoy nature while in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Here are three in the Keweenaw to visit this winter, during spring melt, or in the summer on your vacation. The best time for flow is during spring melt which can be as early as mid March and sometimes lasts through early May.
These 3 waterfalls in Keweenaw county are all easy to get to for viewing, the hardest one is Ten foot falls as you have to walk a short distance through the snow or dirt and tree roots in the summer.

Ten foot falls - Keweenaw county
Located off M26 before Eagle River, MI
GPS marker - 47.397416, -88.284635
Yooper Steve Rating: 5/10
Height: 8 feet - Width: 30 feet
River: Eagle River
Ease of access: Easy - dirt path with rock and roots, short distance (75ft) to waterfall from parking spot off M26
NOTE: this waterfall is accessible because the private land owner allows it, please be sure to pick up any trash you see and tread lightly so it remains open.
Eagle River Falls
Located in the town of Eagle River, MI off M26
GPS marker 47.412128, -88.296871
Yooper Steve Rating: 7/10
Height: 50 feet - Width: 40 feet
River: Eagle River
Ease of access: Very Easy - Short distance to waterfall from parking spot off M26, you’ll walk on the old bridge which once used to be the roadway and now is the viewing deck for the waterfall from above.
Note: Be sure to check out the new wooden bridge that you drive across, it is a beautiful work of art and it feels like it doesn’t fit in the U.P.
Jacobs Falls - Keweenaw county
Located off M26 between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor
GPS marker 47.427858, -88.237699
Yooper Steve Rating: 6/10
Height: 30 feet - Width: 20 feet
River: Jacobs creek
This waterfall is just up from the Jampot Monk’s Bakery on M26. It is between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor and is one of the easiest waterfalls to see in the Upper Peninsula. Park at the Jampot parking lot or park in the little parking space across from the waterfall, please don’t stop on the roadway off the highway, the road is skinny and has no shoulder area for cars and with tourism traffic you’re asking to get hit or cause a pedestrian to get hit. Recently the land around these waterfalls was purchased and will remain open to the public to enjoy year-round. There is a trail that goes up along the hillside above the waterfalls that leads you to an old mine site and a couple more small waterfalls off the trail.
I will have more videos, pictures, and information on more falls above and the trail that traverses along the creek above in a future post.
Note: there are more waterfalls upstream from the main waterfall. If you are more adventurous feel free to explore but be warned it can be dangerous and slippery with the loose dirt, exposed rocks, and slick rock.

I have been exploring the Upper Peninsula all my life and enjoy sharing my adventures with you so you’re able to experience the joy and peacefulness that you feel when being in nature. The Upper Peninsula can be intimidating outside of the brochure and hotel recommendation hot spots and that is why I provide my services as an outdoor guide. Having a local guide you don’t have to worry about getting lost, getting stuck in the woods, or managing you time. You’ll see more and learn more on the adventure. I can’t wait to see you on an adventure.

I do not think I have been to 10 foot falls. I have been to the other two. One of these years, I am going to get to the Keweenaw in the winter time. It looks so beautiful with the snow.
