Hey everyone a quick little update on the fall colors before week 6 update. I am noticing a lot of change throughout the UP, color is coming faster than people realize and I don’t want you to miss it. I do these reports so you can be more informed than other people who rely on random facebook posts or general color maps put out by random news stations. I drive 4000 + miles (this season probably going to reach 6,000 miles) each fall season, I do it for you and your friends. I thank you for following the reports and feel free to share any pictures or updates you have on color change if you’re driving around the UP through fall color season.
Being that many areas the colors are really dull and muted it is harder for most to see the color change happening before their eyes. When you don’t see the bright colors it doesn’t trigger your mind that color is progressing as fast as it really is. We will be moving into 30+ percent in some areas this week maybe even more, but the heat of this weekend and the next few days will further hinder that bright color in areas where rain hasn’t been as plentiful.
While traveling the UP this week the reds are starting to really come out in places and others they are so dull. The best reds so far I have seen were south of Big Bay along county road 510, not just a few trees but lots of trees with red, and vibrant. Here is a little video I uploaded to the FunintheUP Youtube channel, it is a series of images taken along 510. I was pleasantly surprised to see such virbant reds, I was expecting a few dull reds like I have seen across most of the UP up to this point. Also while in the Munising area I was around Wetmore and noticed some good reds out there as well.
Don’t get to discouraged about the dullness of colors so far, we will still have a wonderful and very colorful peak color season. Just remember peak color is different across much of the UP so pay attention. As I have mentioned in previous posts, take some time to view different areas across the UP, some areas will be starting to get really good, some areas will be reaching peak, and others may be peak and into past peak.
This week the paid subscribers will continue to get access to the weekly UP Fall Color Drive Videos.
If you aren’t already a paid subscriber I would love to have your support it helps me continue the Weekly UP fall color reports and continue doing the Daily UP Snow Reports.
Below are maps for detailed and basic reports we had for week 4. Paid subs get the detailed written regional report plus the detailed weekly map.
Central UP did not have dry conditions this Summer. The weather office in Negaunee is actually above normal in precip for the June/July/August timeframe.
Your videos on FunintheUP, Youtube channel are FANTASTIC! Love the drone footage. When I can not be in the U.P. you keep me connected, thank you! I could not make it up there this Labor Day weekend, so I am enjoying your videos. I am hoping to get up there for the fall colors.
