Sorry for the delay this week on the update had vehicle issue which kept me down for a few days. I was coming back to Houghton from Marquette on a guided tour. I was getting into L’Anse when my wheel bearing starting screeching really loud. I was able to get it home later that night and get a new wheel bearing hub the next day and then get time to put it in late Monday. The good this is I’ve replaced a handful of wheel bearing hubs on my vehicles before so it made it a bit better knowing how to do the job and it also helped that this vehicle is from Arizona so no rust (yet) to deal with. Putting 20,000-25,000/mi a year on the vehicle really takes its toll, about half of that mileage is off-road driving so things get beat up a bit faster than highway miles.
I think this fall color season will be one of the best color seasons we have seen for the last few years. Things are progressing really nicely, however the way the weather is going I think it will come and go in a hurry so be sure to keep tract of each update. As a paid subscribe you’ll get the more detailed report and detailed weekly fall color change map that will help you plan your trip.
Starting to see that color now along most roadsides even along the shorelines of Lake Superior. We are still a little behind last year in color progression but I think we will catch up pretty quickly if these cooler days arrive this week and we start getting down into the low 40s and don’t see a lot of sun through the daytime. It really doesn’t take long for color to pop.
I would say we have seen about 5% color progression from last week and upwards of 10% in some areas. Higher elevations color change is about what last year was and lower elevations and along the Lake Superior shoreline and Lake Michigan shorelines are still very green. Eastern UP very green yet with some color now starting to be more noticeable. Western UP is dry but with that heavy rain late Saturday night might help with color progression going forward now.
