Overall Color Change 15%-40%
Well folks it’s been an interesting fall so far, warm, wind, hot, cold, rain, everything but snow, but that can’t be ruled out either before all the leaves fall off the trees.
This past week we have seen temperatures get back into the mid 80s and reach almost 90 degrees through much of the Upper Peninsula.
With this heat many of the leaves are starting to turn crispy again and color for the most part is still pretty dull. Last night and today we have seen some rain upwards of 1 to 1.5 inches across some of the U.P. so that should help keep the trees from really shutting down chlorophyll production to quickly and slowly allow those fall colors to pop as we reach peak fall color.
Peak colors will come fast and end fast
I think this year will be another year that color comes fast and leaves fast so it will be important for you to really pay attention to these reports so you have the best chance of hitting the best fall color you can. Also I would highly suggest taking at least 3 nights and 4 days at minimum to travel across the U.P. to see different areas to ensure you see the colors you desire. There are so many awesome places to see the fall colors in the Upper Peninsula and I am sure there are some places that you haven’t been to before so seek those places out.
Overall we have added another 10% on the low end and another 10% on the high end of color change. There has been a lot of sunlight to deal with so that really washes out the color when you’re trying to get a good idea of color change from the drone or from overlook views looking down on the tree tops.
