Some lake effect snow showers in the Keweenaw, Alger county, and areas near Manistique. Heaviest snowfall was near Munising with some heavier snow squalls moving through during the day yesterday giving Munising the highest snow totals for the day.
Over the next 72 hours there won’t be to much to get excited about for snowfall. Right before Christmas there will be a system moving in a bit more south than the Upper Peninsula. This could be a big winter storm through Illinois, WI, and lower Michigan Right now the models are showing the system bringing a little snow across more eastern portions of the UP, but things are still developing as it moves further east.
Check out the 72hr projected snow totals for the UP and then look at the 186hr projection for snowfall into the 26th. This could be big, but it is still to early to get excited over. For those traveling though the central US and eastern US will want to keep track of the winter weather advisories and warnings from the National Weather Service for the areas you will be traveling through, this is going to be a nasty storm affecting millions during the Christmas travel period.
I will try to put together another post with some graphics of the forecast models for the next week.
