There wasn’t much snow today with only a dusting mostly in the Keweenaw. Temps have been warm with temps reaching into the mid 40s Sunday. This past week we have seen above normal temps and actually have seen sunshine a handful of days this last week, a nice break really. This weather has been up and down this winter, snow seems to mostly come in snowstorms this season with a warm up after.
January snowfall totals weren’t lowest on record at any stations I looked at, and actually wasn’t close in most locations, granted there’s only a handful of snow stations to look at and to compare with a long historic history of measuring snowfall. 90% of the 80 or snow stations that I have listed have been active for less than 15years.
Snowfall totals aren’t far off from last year at this time, some stations are a few inches over and some a few inches behind. Look for some nice spring snowstorms this year, especially with the lake being as open as it is right now.
Tomorrow (Tues) we will see some rain, some areas may see up to a half-inch with some areas transitioning to snowfall late Tues night into Wednesday morning. Wednesday the rain should drop off and snow should move in. This system shouldn’t bring us much in the way of snow, especially if the rain lingers a bit longer than projected. It will probably be pretty messy this week with plenty of puddles and possible flooding on roads and driveways.
I went xc skiing with friends up in Copper Harbor yesterday and the day was beautiful and then I did some flights with the drone and a took a few photos of the pancake ice and shorelines at Astor park. I will post some pics below the snow totals data.
