UP Snow Totals for Dec 15&16

Not a lot of snow the last few days just enough to keep a dusting on the roadways and enough to keep teasing anyone who loves winter. It doesn’t look good for any big storms until the last week of the month and even then it is just to far out to forecast anything reliable, it is winter after all.

We are moving evermore closer to Christmas and the New Year, where did 2022 go, I think we always say that, especially as we get older. It is crazy to think that I have been doing UP Snow total since 2011 it seems when I first started I didn’t think I would still be doing it. First started with one snow stations and 5 years ago I added my 5th and 6 snow stations in 2017/18. Maybe one day I will add up how many inches of snow I have measured since 2011.

For those snowmobilers out there, there aren’t any trails that are in excellent condition across the UP yet, but many are able to be ridden, don’t forget it is early season conditions. Your best bet is the Western UP from Ironwood to Bergland and from Greenland to Toivola, and areas near Calumet to Central in the Keweenaw. Trails further east just don’t have much of a base right now, hopefully after the lake effect that is happening tonight and into tomorrow (Sunday) areas around the Pictured Rocks will be a bit better, even over near Paradise should see a little bit of snow.

If you are looking for cross country skiing and snow biking you’re in luck, there is enough snow in most areas of the UP right now that it is possible, again though your western UP and Keweenaw are your best bets for good snow conditions.
