UP Snow Totals Jan 15th
Warmer weather ahead, lake effect snow returns to some places this weekend.
Last night we saw the coldest night of the season up to -16 degrees, no not windchill temps but actual temperature. Here are the coldest temps from around the UP last night.
Good news for those who would like their days a little warmer, it appears warmer temps are on their way this weekend. We will slowly climb out of the single digits Wednesday and into the weekend where we should see mid 20s and possibly a few places might see some low 30s Monday. Below is the 6-10 day Temperature outlook. As you can see we should rise a little above average for much of the remainder of the month. How much will this affect the snow I think it will for the most part, but any cold evenings with even some light winds over Lake Superior could still bring us plenty of lake effect snow.
The Keweenaw will continue to see the lake effect snow tonight into Thursday and the weekend. There’s also some snow in the forecast for Friday for places that have been missing out on the snow the last couple days. We are still well below in almost all 75 snow stations that I monitor across the UP, some places are still 60-80% down from last season.
Snowmobilers can now get across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge as the mats went down and snow was piled up on them yesterday.
Michigan Tech students have begun working on the snow statues and there is plenty of snow and Winter Carnival goes on, I don’t think there has been a year there hasn’t been statues since the first Winter Carnival in 1922.
Should be snow updates pretty much everyday for the next few days at least.
