The Keweenaw continues to see lake effect with totals really starting to add up. Close to 50 inches of snow in a few places this week. It’s pretty crazy to think that about a week ago there was barely a couple inches on the ground. We all knew it would be coming sooner or later, the UP always gets plenty of snow, well the snow belts usually do.

Driving around today getting my 6 snow stations measured and shoveled today I must have seen 30 or so snowmobilers and a couple dozen snowmobile trailers. The word has started to get out and I am sure this weekend parking lots of the hotels will start to get full. It’s tough for the businesses that rely on snowmobile tourism to make it especially when the busiest times are usually around Christmas and New Years.
I am looking forward to more snow and getting outside to enjoy winter now that the snow has returned, if I had a snowmobile I’d go but I just go snowshoeing, xc skiing, winter camping, sledding, and some ice skating once in awhile.
Here’s a LIVE video from South Range outside of Houghton of the lake effect snow adding up.
Already tonight in South Range and Dollar Bay I measured 4 and 4.5 inches of snow, so if it keeps up like it was snowing it should be close to 8 or 10 inches by morning at least.

Love the pictures of all that snow. Snow shoeing is fun. I am hoping to get to Tahquamenon Falls in February when they do snow shoeing on Saturdays. I am sure you go to more remote places. That would be a great video to see where you go snow shoeing. Thanks for keeping us connected to the beautiful U.P.
