Just a light dusting of snowfall across most of the Upper Peninsula. Snow flakes were light and fluffy as temps dropped and will continue to drop this week. The next 7-10 days it doesn’t appear we will see any significant storm systems reaching the Upper Peninsula, just a few flurries here and there through the week.
Since our warm weather warm up I haven’t seen as many snowmobilers out there on the trails because of the lack of fresh snow, so let’s hope that we see a few inches every few days to maintain what we have. With the cold temps arriving that should help keep the trails a bit more flattened as they can set up quicker and stay a bit more firm through repeated traffic.
Cross country skiing was fast this past week and with a fresh few inches was pretty enjoyable and classic tracks stayed setup pretty nice. Skating was a little slick but better than the last week as temps were in the high 20s and low to mid 30s.
You’ll see that we are now about even with last years snow totals and some stations are starting to fall behind. This January snowfall has been on the low side and there may be some snow stations that may be near or at a record low as January ends, we shall see.
