Sorry about the snow totals not being updated, been having some computer issues and database issues. Hopefully things should go smoother, but I guess that’s technology for ya. I have posted today’s number as 1 day, then posted the other days I had to catch up in double days, Feb 4/5, Feb 2/3, Feb1/Jan31. Anyway, where did the month of January go, I guess as you get older times seems to fly by faster and when you’re staying busy time flies by also. One thing with having 6 snowfall stations to measure daily through the winter forces me outside and staying active when sometimes I would rather stay inside where it is warm and saving money on gas not having to drive around 45-50 miles on average per day to measure snow at my 6 stations around the Copper Country.
Here’s a fun stat about my snowfall measurements. So far this season I have measured a total of 815.40 inches of snow as of this mornings’ (Jan7th) measurement of snow that fell on Jan 6th. All of last 2021/22 snow season at my 6 snowfall stations I measured a total of 1,381.10 inches of snow. To reach another 565.7 inches of snow before the 2022/23 season ends I would have to measure an average of 94.3 inches of snow at each of the 6 snowfall stations. If you figure 3 more decent months for possible snowfall that is 31.4 inches per month at each of the 6 snowfall stations I measure snow at.

Our tour with Yooper Steve was fantastic. He chatted like an old friend and was knowledgeable about the history of the area, many hidden gems, and different types of plants. We saw gorgeous waterfalls, historical ruins, and beautiful views. We would definitely recommend and plan to book again the next time we visit the area.

January snowfall was some of the lowest on record for many stations, I haven’t run the numbers and haven’t had time to research that yet, I would certainly like to as it would be some interesting stats to look at. The Copper Country was the only place that is has snowed everyday since Jan 25th, but the streak might end tomorrow as it has been mild through the day today and looks to stay mild through the early morning hours before I head out to do check snow. Everyday regardless if it snows or not I still have to check each station for on the ground snow total.
Ice on Lake Superior grew over the last week, check out the data below to compare to last year to this year. Ice coverage can grow pretty quickly and we are still entering our coldest time of the year, usually that is the 3rd week of Feb into the first week of March. Look at last year, greatest ice coverage was on March 15th with 79.55% on Lake Superior.
Ok it is almost 2 am here and I am getting tired so that’s all I am going to write. Check out the snow totals below.
