It certainly feels good to recover from norovirus, certainly don’t want to feel like that again. If you didn’t read the last post about that you can go back and read it. Thank you for all the well wishes to those who sent one, I really appreciate that a lot.

Cold Air moves in and snow continues
After having a break in snowfall the last half of December for 9 days we are now on a streak of 14 days of measurable snowfall since then. We haven’t seen a lot of snow since then but we now have 8 stations in the 100 Inch Club now with 4 more less than 10 inches away. Next up is the 200 Inch Club, last year not a single location reached that, but I am confident we should see at least 5 reach the 200 Inch Club.
Cold air is now pushing down into the US, but there will be a few warmer days this weekend before it really starts getting cold heading into the end of January. Could we see a repeat of 2019 when we had a cold January and start to February, it is possible. Jan 18th, 2019 to Feb 1st the average temperature at the Houghton county airport was 3 .4 degrees. Jan 27th, 2019 the temperature got down to -15 degrees. Most of that period we did see snowfall everyday, I recorded 58.3 inches of snow. Check out how much ice coverage grew on Lake Superior during this period of cold.
Current ice coverage as of today is 3.61% on Lake Superior
The Great Lakes as a whole really gained some ice coverage during this period as you can see and Lake Erie nearly went from 0% to 100% during those 18 days.
Tomorrow we should see some good snow totals especially from the Porkies into the Keweenaw, but tomorrow night snowfall should drop off for a few days before warming up this weekend where we could see a few more flurries through the weekend.
The snow totals for Jan 8th-12th are below.
Jan 8th snowfall
Jan 9th snowfall
Jan 10th snowfall
Jan 11th snowfall
Jan 12th snowfall
So glad that you are feeling better.
