We are now into our third month of 2025 and it still looks like winter, snowbanks past your waist, roof tops covered in snow, Lake Superior shoreline covered in ice, and people still sporting their winter coats and apparel.

There wasn’t much snow today, only a few locations had any measurable snowfall and nothing more than a couple inches.

Tomorrow we should see a sunny day with little wind, temperatures in the low to mid 40s, overall should be a pleasant day before things start turning in the other direction after midnight. Tuesday we will likely see some rain, albeit light rain through early morning into the early afternoon before switching to snow around sunset. Most of the heavier snowfall should remain in the western UP, Keweenaw, and most of the Central UP.

There’s a few things happening with this storm system, a mid level trough moving in from the central plains along with some gulf moisture moving into the region along with the strong N and NW wind over Lake Superior. This will give us some heavy snowfall Wednesday, wet and heavy early on then later into the day Wednesday and early Thursday with falling temps could see a bit lighter flakes as snowfall rates decrease.

This storm will likely cause some power outages and cause some trees to fall and branches to break. Roadways will be slick and we could see some freezing rain before rain transitions to snow.

With the NW winds and passing clipper system extending into later in the week it keeps the possibility of some light snow into the weekend. Looking further out into next week we could see another Colorado low moving in but right now it appears it might say a bit south of our area, but I will keep an eye on it. It appears March give us some fun weather as we head towards springtime here in the Upper Peninsula.

The higher elevations around Ironwood, Bergland, and Keweenaw could reach 10-12 inches as well as some areas in the Michigamme highlands of Marquette county. Snow east of Marquette to Munising could see 4-6 inches. Further eastward in the UP there may only be 1-3 inches of snowfall after the rain moves out.

March 1st snowfall below
