The snow is back after a brief couple weeks of warmer late fall weather . Those 50 degree temps may be the last we see until March or April.
Sunday we started to see the snow arrive about mid afternoon, light flurries soon led to enhanced lake effect snow as darkness arrived. Waves on Lake Superior were 2-4" foot most of the morning into the afternoon, could really feel the crisp air if you were on the Lake Superior shoreline.

The little snow we have gotten the last couple days has been a welcome sight to the snowmobilers, skiers, and those who find winter magical.
So what is this winter going to look like? Well if you have been paying attention to the forecasters with NOAA and other weather agencies you will hear it will be on the warmer side with lower precipitation much of the winter into spring, some even saying into early summer. These general forecasts are fine for much of the CONUS (Continental United States), but we have to also look at the Upper Peninsula a bit differently. Where the UP sits is pretty unique along with being surrounded almost entirely by two of the largest cold water freshwater bodies of water on earth, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.
Where the UP sits in the United States is about center north where we are affected by cool air from the north along with a clash of warmer southern air. What kind of weather we see is difficult to forecast based on where we are along with the topography in this region of the US as well. With winter we sometimes see these crazy snowstorms with lake effect and system snowfall that tend to be some of our biggest snow events during the course of a winter. Snowfall totals are really hard to predict already but now you add in this clash of weather and you get quite the mix.

I am leaning towards a winter much like last year with slightly less snowfall, with some of our bigger snowfalls most likely later in the winter. I think with this warming trend I think we just might be in for some dual snow systems of lake effect and system snow. With warmer weather we also have to factor in open waters of Lake Superior giving us the chance for higher lake effect snow dumps, which are always welcome to winter enthusiasts. Winter is coming.

HI Steve. I attempted to fill out the contest form twice. I received a message: "We are very sorry, but there were error(s) found with the form you submitted. These errors appear below.
The Comments you entered do not appear to be valid.
Please go back and fix these errors."
The rest of the page was blank and it did not show the errors in the form below.
Maybe it was the 'Favorite place in the U.P.' box to fill out. I put my favorite place and a guess as to the amount of snow. Is that what you wanted in that box?
Any suggestions to help fill out the form would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
