Wk 7 UP Fall Color Report
Rain and cold air arrives, now we will start to see more color change.
Welcome to week 7 of the 10th Annual UP Fall Color Report. This is the #1 place for information on the changes of fall across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Driving Stats for 2023 UP Fall Color Report
Week 7: Miles driven: 430 miles - 31gal of gas
Weeks 1-7: Miles driven 4,955mi - 361 gal of gas
After putting on 1200 miles on the wheels last week for the UP Fall Color Report I had to take it a little easy this week with only 430 or so miles this week, but I did surpass last years mileage of 4600 miles for the fall color report, so far this season I’ve put on 4900 miles with weeks yet to go. I think I need to find a gas sipping vehicle for my fall color drive reporting instead of my gas hog big suv.

The cooler weather arrived late last week and this week looks to be in the mid 60s with temps to drop into the mid 50s and mid 40s during the nights. This should really kick off the color now. Even with the rain we had there are a still many areas across the Western UP and Copper Country that are looking pretty dull, there are some decent pops of red now showing but not much.
I think this season we will have a good 2 week period that will give those willing to travel a bit to see the beauty of fall before peak, peak, and past peak colors. If you are determined to just visit one area of the UP I recommend keeping a close watch on the detailed report weekly to give you the best chance in hitting the best color for your favorite areas. Keep in mind the overlook views across the UP are the most popular but always remember that the tree tops are only part of the beauty and the wind and rain can really strip the leaves off the trees quickly overnight. Don’t worry find some backroads to get in your color fix as the understory of the forests change into a golden yellow beauty not seen from the overlook views.
If you haven’t ever seen the Upper Peninsula fall colors then you are missing out and you need to make the trip, maybe I will see you out there enjoying the fall colors.
