Did the weather gives us the ultimate April Fool’s Day joke after the winter we have had? I think it did. I am sure there were a few people who thought the notices they were seeing about 12-24” inches of snow coming thought it was a joke, it would be a great joke right, but it was real.
Snow was wet, winds were swift, and snow kept falling. This time the snow was system snowfall out of the NE with a little lake effect mixed in later on. The UP doesn’t get a lot of NE or East wind system snow events as most of the year we are dominated by strong Arctic N and NW winds.
Last we had a similar snow event where the last two days of April and first two days of May dropped 52 inches of snow in Herman and 20-30 inches of snow in western Marquette county.
Check out the snow totals for the end of April and first two days of May last year.
April 29th - April 30th - May 1st - May 2nd
I did enjoy the snow yesterday as I took a ride out into Baraga county and took a few pictures and videos. I found that it was quite pleasant even though I would have been fine with not seeing another snowflake until October.
This snow already started to melt pretty good today with some sunshine and will really start disappearing with the 50s coming soon and more sunshine.
Look for warm weather ahead going into the middle of the month.
UP Snow Totals for April 2nd and 3rd below.
I have listed the 2 day snow total along with the snow totals for April 3rd on the left side column.
